For one reason or another, there are things that will impede and discourage us from continuing something we have started. There are also people who have fantastic thoughts in their minds but when it comes to realizing those thoughts, they cannot seem to do it. The problem that many home business owners have is the lack of motivation, something that has been underrated and overlooked by most of us. We are either too preoccupied with work or too busy dealing with problems that we have not bothered to sit down and reckon about the things that will really motivate us to keep moving forward.

The Importance of Motivation

When business is excellent, we probably will not need to motivate ourselves that much but when business is not doing well, this becomes the main driving force that will encourage us not to give up. When our level of motivation is high, we do not let setbacks keep us from achieving our goals. Instead, we remain focused on what it is we want to achieve and work even harder to achieve it. Essentially, the difference between people who persevere and those who give up is motivation. While to some extent, we all have our own motivation, which is to be successful, it is really a matter of how motivated we are that will determine whether we will quit or go forward when problems and difficulties come our way.

Reasons We Are Not Motivated Enough

There are only two excellent reasons why we are not motivated enough and these are: lack of goals and lack of confidence. When we lack goals, we can easily lose track of what our priorities are and it is hard to figure out where we are going, or what we hope to achieve in a period of time. Lack of self-confidence, on the other hand, will impede you from reaching your destination because a small voice in your head will keep on telling you that you just cannot do it.

How to Become Motivated

Of course, the best way to become more motivated is to simply address the reasons why you are not motivated in the first place. This means that you need to set goals for yourself. Goal setting is not as hard as you reckon but this is something you must take time to do. In goal setting, use the SMART method, which is:

S-Specific

M-Measurable

A-Attainable

R-Relevant

T-Time Bound

Your goals need to be specific and clear to you. Making vague goals such as “to be filthy rich” is not going to work. Goals should also be measurable (quantitative) so that you can keep track of your progress. Goals should be attainable; do not set impossible goals for yourself or you end up frustrated. Goals need to be relevant; every goal should be in agreement with your personal beliefs and principles, and it should be something that will fit you. Lastly, goals need to be time-bound which means that there is permanently a deadline for every milestone and for every goal in order to have a sense of urgency.

Now that we have provided a solution on the first issue regarding motivation, our next step is to help you become more confident about your own abilities. How do we do that?

First of all, permanently be ready and prepared. Lack of self-confidence can stem from being unprepared, which will then trigger laziness and procrastination. Next, face your fears. What is it that you dread about your business? Is it losing money? Not getting enough customers? Accept that these things could happen; deal with it and go on. Thirdly, do not be bound by limitations you have set for yourself. Indeed, the only person who is capable of setting limitations on yourself is you. Imagine what you could achieve if you just tell yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to, because you can. When you make a habit of believing that you can do anything, you would be surprised at the outcome.

By setting goals and believing in yourself 100%, you will not have to worry about motivation because it will come in automatically. And when a person is motivated, no matter how terrible things are going right now, he will never give up because he knows that things will improve in the morning.
