There are people who can accomplish many things in a agreed time. These are the kinds of people who know where they are going and what they need in order to get there. They have carved out a sharp future for themselves and are confidently working their way towards getting to their destination. These are people who believe in the power of goal setting as an effective way of achieving the things they want in life.

Place it Into Writing

Non-achievers fall into two types: the first type is a person who do not know what he wants, and the second one is a person who knows what he wants but does not have the discipline to realize his goals. Either way, they simply cannot accomplish fantastic things that will bring them success in life.

One of the very first things you need to do in setting goals is to write all of them down. They have to be specific, clear, and realistic goals. Once you have written them down, plot out how you can achieve them, step by step.

Motivate Yourself

By the side of the way of achieving your goals, you will encounter many hurdles. You must be prepared to face these and make sure they do not discourage you from reaching the goals you have set. Constant affirmations are necessary in order to motivate yourself in the midst of difficulties.

Believe in Yourself

One of the most common factors that impede us towards achieving our goals is our lack of self-confidence. If you do not even believe that you can really be successful, then there is just no way that you can do this. Self-fulfilling prophecies are more powerful than you reckon.

Have a Back up Plot

As we progress in our journey towards achieving our goals, we sometimes realize that things will not turn out as plotted. It is necessary therefore to permanently have a backup plot ready. Being proactive is a key element in setting goals; prepare for problems before they even arise.

SMART Goals

In goal setting, you need to make SMART goals. This method is very well loved among companies today because it has been proven effective many times over. A excellent thing about it is that you can very well make your own personal SMART goals too.

S-Specific. Make goals that are clear to you. Goals that are vague and general are not recommended. Basically, instead of writing down “Be rich” you should be more specific and write down “Earn one million dollars in five years by selling real estate properties.”

M-Measurable. You should be able to monitor your progress because if your goals are not measurable, it would be hard for you to know if you are doing excellent at achieving it or not.

A-Attainable. While majority of us want to earn enough money to live comfortably, not everyone can become billionaires. When setting goals, make sure these are realistic ones and not something that will only bring you frustrations later on.

R-Relevant. Each goal that you have must be aligned to your principles and values. Otherwise it would be very hard to achieve them because they are contrary to what you believe in.

T-Time Bound. Many people set goals but they do not give themselves deadlines for it, and as a result, nothing much gets achieved. Make sure to set clear time-frames for your goals.
